Tsiknopempti 2014

It's that time of the year! Where Greeks eat all the meat in the world! This year the Hellenic Society celebrates Tsiknopempti as a family at the Brasilian restaurant Fire of Brazil in Downtown. Greek Georgia Tech Professors have also been invited so it will be a chance for everyone to meet and greet!

Intramural Basketball

The Hellenic Society takes part in Intramural Basketball, as well as other intramurel sports. It is a great way for us to grow as a team and as an organization, and also to stay healthy and active. The team is open to anyone in the Hellenic Society who wants to play before the season starts. We do this by a first come, first serve basis, giving everyone an equal chance to participate.

Tsiknopempti 2012

For Tsiknopempti, or meaty Thursday, this year, the Hellenic society went to the restaurant "Fogo de Chao". For those who don't know, this day is dedicated to meat eating in preparation for Easter fasting! We chose this restaurant because for the main course, waiters will walk around with plates of meat that guests can choose from.

Vasilopita Cutting 2012

In order to celebrate the coming of the 2012 New year, the Hellenic Society hosted an event where we cut and ate the vasilopita. We had many people show up as our president, Spyros cut the cake and handed the pieces out. We had four vasilopita, which means we had four lucky winners! After an intense game of rock, paper, scissors, the ultimate winner got a gift card to Barnes and Noble.

NHSA Convention - Boston

The Georgia Tech Hellenic Society has participated in the National Hellenic Student Association of America Convention in Boston in the Fall of 2011.The theme of the convention was “Be the Agent of Change: Shape Your Future, Shape Greece, Shape the NHSA”. The purpose of the convention was to bring together Hellenic student representatives from universities across North America along with esteemed members of the Hellenic community with the goal of empowering students to make a positive impact on their lives and their communities. There were interactive panel lecture series and mentorship events with established professionals, politicians, educators, and entrepreneurs. Students were granted the opportunity to network with professionals and peers for internships, summer jobs, and even career opportunities.

Intramural Soccer

The Hellenic Society participates in many intramurel sports, one of them being soccer! On certain nights, we'll go out and play against other clubs and societies in a competitive tournament. This is a very fun event for anyone to participate in. All of the players have unique abilities and it ends up, every time, to be an exciting game. This is another way for our members to get to know one another while having fun, keeping active, and growing as a society.

Stone Mountain Trip

In October, the Georgia Tech Hellenic Society went for an evening trip to Stone Mountain. For those who don't know, Stone Mountain is located just outside Atlanta and is a park where people can hike, ride the cable car or the train and eat. The rock in the center has a carving picturing three prominent members of the Confederate army from the Civil War riding horse-back. At night, there is also a spectacular laser show (the world's largest, apparently) that's played on the rock itself. The Hellenic Society met up and went hiking up Stone Mountain and taking in the beautiful scenery that the park had to offer. Then, once back down, they got food and watched the spectacular laser light show.

Greek Festival

This year, a group of Hellenic Society members went to the Greek Festival, held by Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where they enjoyed all of the Greek culture and experiences offered there. The festival offers many great attractions such as a variety of amazing Greek food, Greek dancing, and shopping throughout the area. There were bands and singers performing live on stage while the audience got to get up and dance to the sound, or just sit back, take it all in, and relax. There were a multitude of different shopping stands available as well, ranging from jewelry to books, and much more.

Welcome Bar-Be-Que 2011

The first social get together for the Hellenic Society of the year was an amazing bar-be-que hosted at the complex of one of our very own members. We had burgers, chicken, drinks, dessert, and much more! The party lasted for hours while people sat around and chatted, enjoying the atmosphere and the company of fellow Greeks. This event was one of our largest and most successful events, with over forty people attending!
